Well Id say more then considering, lets say I will indefinitely be making the jump to Droid. I've spent 4 months with my Tour and really enjoy it. Ill probably be enjoy it for about 2 months more before I make the switch.

Dont get me wrong, I love the Tour and think its great, but the OS and browser just isnt up to date with other smartphones. Maybe Ill come back when RIM does something big, until then Im looking else where. Most of this comes from the fact I got to spend a few days toying with a friends Droid (that sounded odd). And its pretty amazing. Ive said for years, If iPhone ever came to Verizon, and had a physical slideout keyboard, I would get it. Well the Droid is the closest thing to that happening. The device is pretty phenominal. The slide out keyboard isnt great but I think I will adjust to it. I will be happy that I wont be forced to rely on a virtual keyboard (although the Droids virtual keyboard is surprisingly good).

A lot of people make this switch and end up coming back to blackberry. Ive only been a berry owner for 4 months so I dont have that long past with the device, so I dont see a return happening, but you never know. Ill still check back in here, and when I get the Droid in my hands in a few months, Ill let you all know what I think.

good luck dude!!!

I have been considering Android for a while... just that the devices available are not where I would like them to be... I can't wait for the next generation of HTC Hero....

Yeah I feel the same way. I think there is definitely room to grow with these Android phones. I think the Droid is a good start, and I hope the 2nd generation of it has a sleeker design and better form factor. But after toying with it, its definitely not bad. As I type on my Tour right now I cant help but feel saddened that ill be done with it in 2 months. Ie had about 8 different modeled phones and its by far been my favorite. I wish I could afford to keep it and have a Droid too.

Ive been a Droid owner for 4 days now. I promise, I will never look back to blackberry, even though I loved my Tour. The Droid is phenomenal. Android OS is amazing. The browser is terrific. Youtube videos outstanding. When the Nexus 1 hits verizon in June or whatever, I may just pay full retail for it.

I'm almost speechless as to how great the phone is. I'm not one of those people who are always looking for a phone to kill the iPhone, but at least their is finally a set of devices to really compete with Apple. Android OS isn't perfect yet, but as long as it continues to get better, I will always have an Android device.

There are some things about my tour that are making me think "ugh!" about it....

This July I get to renew my contract... maybe I give Android a try and since I'm in Sprint... I may try that new monster phone that is expected to be released this year... The HTC Supersonic, supposedly the first 4G phone... lets see what happens...

I'm curious to know what the things are that make you think "ugh!".

Well... im someone that thinks that as technology progresses, things should get faster and better... not always true!, I have experienced (and now with my Tour 9630) that even though its somewhat a high end device, it is slow and sluggish at the simple things... I dont really keep apps open in the background, and most of the time, when i need to do something simple on the phone right away (e.g. open the browser, calendar, contacts,  send a text); i have found my self staring at the thinking spinning clock...

I really like the concept of what a blackberry does and the options it gives to the user... but it really makes me "ugh!" when a device that should be fast, its not...

my wife got a samsung reclaim.. a really low end device. and that thing is fast at everything that it does!!! why cant our high end devices be like that...

I also share the same feeling with my DirectTV HD DVR receivers... I remember before HD was an option, the receivers were fast. now with all the high end tech, they are slow...

Maybe I just got used to the "I want it, and I want it NOW" or that i got so proficient using the device that I'm one step ahead when completing a tast... but thats just me...

I would really love to see RIM create a device that would set the standard in the smartphone world... kind of what the same thing apple did with iphone...

I dont want to turn this into an iphone thing... but its the fact that it is the most popular device in the smartphne market at the moment... and that thing is fast!!! (only if it had a BOLD/Tour styled physical keyboard)

I see that android is growing.. and they are becoming ubber-popular because they keep it simple and think at the user level to deliver a kick ass product with things people like... as they did with the nexus 1...

I also feel that RIM at this point, are catching up on the non-business consumer level. definitely a market they want to get a bigger share. but they wont until they simplify their devices and make them awesome!

sorry for the vent everyone!!! i had extra time today to go crazy on this answer!!!  =-)

Ryu: You're right, if someone is going to pay $200 for a phone it better be fast; speed as well as features better be cutting edge when paying top dollar. I'm starting to get frustrated too with some of the waiting that I have to do. I don't have a lot of apps either so I don't get why the phone lags at times.

I've been using my phone more and more since I got the Tour (along with learning that I had unlimited internet access) so I'm actually going to have to start shopping for a phone that has it all when I upgrade. Though my nieces and nephews who don't have RIM devices always ask to use my phone because it has 3G; apparently their cheap $10/month access sucks. So I guess I'm still living with the upper half of the smart phone market.

I've had a few issues with the lag but not quite to the point where it's becoming ridiculous for me yet.

My biggest complaint so far is that my phone crashed and was completely unrecoverable using all methods that RIM tech support AND crackberry had to offer because I updated one of the apps that I got from the blackberry app world and then upgraded through app world too. I would have understood if the crash had occurred during the install/upgrade of an app that I found on the net somewhere but not something I downloaded from our official source for apps.

I wish there was a stock app that let us control which apps launched at start-up.  My second biggest complaint is the INSANE amount of time that it takes for the phone to power cycle. Not just the time it takes to finally load the screen back but then for the crazy lag that I have to wait out while all the start-up apps do their thing. I'd say I have at least 10 minutes of down time between power down and ready-to-use status.

In landscape mode, normal typing is better, but I'm telling you if you get the chance to use a virtual keyboard with swype in portrait mode, try it. Its lightning fast, and oddly accurate. When I first saw swype I thought it was a little gimmicky. Once I tried it, that all changed.
