My wife ordered her Motorola Droid at the beginning of the week and has already missed two delivery attempts from fedex and she doesn't get home early enough to go pick it up from them before they close.

Hopefully she will get it tomorrow so I can get some play time with it to see if it's something I might like better than the BB platform. I am not a fan of the keyboard because the keys are too closely grouped together on such a large keyboard surface.  They should have removed the D-pad since it's a touch screen. Not really any reason to have clickable directional buttons when the screen responds to touch, IMO.

I agree... I think the d-pad is moto's idea instead of a trackball like the HTC products... but I agree, if the screen is touch.. no need for d-pad or trackballs..

My biggest complaint so far is that my phone crashed and was completely unrecoverable using all methods that RIM tech support AND crackberry had to offer because I updated one of the apps that I got from the blackberry app world and then upgraded through app world too. I would have understood if the crash had occurred during the install/upgrade of an app that I found on the net somewhere but not something I downloaded from our official source for apps.

The best thing i ever did was upgrade to OS 5.0. I had the same issues and have come to the conclusion that OS 4.7.1.xx is unstable junk. OS 5.0.0.419 is out for almost every carrier anow and I have been using it since it was just a leak. It is solid and I would upgrde ASAP (as soon as you do a backup).

As for your comment about BB letting you decide what apps to start at startup, I agree with you but RIM most likely considers it un-necessary. One of the biggest things that people need to get used to when they switch to BB is that the device has no real OFF switch because it is intended to be running 24/7/365. Yes many users do daily battery pulls (I do one maybe weekly myself unless I am upgrading something) to free up memory, but this is not how it is "supposed to be" with BB's in RIM think.

I personally expect to see the DPad disappear once multitoich has been fully implemented. Until then . . .

Im still loving my Droid. Its been like 2, 2 and a half months. Havent even considered looking back. Although I pull my Tour out every once in a while to mess around with. I still like it its style, and keyboard a lot. Ive noticed I cant really type on it as fast anymore.

Now Im already itchy to upgrade to a better Android phone. But Im gonna stick to the Droid for at least a year. I would love to see a phone like Sprints upcoming Evo 4g on Verizon. Ryu, if you decide to make the jump at any point, I think that will be your phone. If you arent familiar with it yet, check it out.

Ha thats awesome! You will love Android in general, especially what will be the BEST android phone on the market, as long as it doesnt have some weird design flaw or something. Im going to be VERY jealous of you once you get it. Its the only device thats ever come out, that has made me slightly consider leaving my carrier of 8 years. I cant wait for Verizon to get something that has the 1ghz Snap Dragon processor, a freaking 4.3 inch screen, 8mp camera, and that front facing 1.3 pm camera. Ive been saying for years that phones should have front facing cameras for video chat.

that sounds so harsh!  Grin

Once my contract is expired on 7/1, I will be most likely moving to Android... bb is great, and overall i have been pretty happy with the Tour. But I do look for other things that bb cant offer right now so I think I have learned a great deal of the bb world... soon it will be time for me to move on..

but i dont see myself as a traitor  Tongue

It's all good :-)  I'm on the Droid site and I don't think we have one for Devour yet anyway. I have no interest in EVO as it is in Sprint.

Android is a completely different world from BB and you will soo see that there is even more to learn there than there was for BB but just be patient. Battery life sucks though in comparison, at least on the moto devices.

I think thats because its open source... so as the OS grows, there are so many changes to keep up with them could be difficult...

With the EVO, I'm accepting this challenge!

Well it's open PERIOD, it's literally a linux computer on your phone and you have access to seeing processes and running apps and demeos in the background, have to learn how to manage your mempry (not just remembering to close apps when you are done because the system isn't set up that way).  Think of a BB being like a SuperNES or PS1, Android is like a PS3 or XBOX, or even your desktop computer ;-)

As for EVO, it looks cool but by the holidays VZW will have something eve better :-P
