no... and afaik, the trackball issue is hardware, not software... and if its software, how come this hasn't been discussed anywhere...

It's actually both. I have seen software updates increase trackball sensitivity in other BB models.

and if there is an update coming... do they know when?

Go to a different store... I got mine replaced, but gotta tell you that Best Buy's service tops Verizon and Sprints!!!

should i go to best buy and get it replaced you think? the guy helping me at the verizon store basically made me feel like an idiot and it really pissed me off to be quite honest.

If you got it from Best Buy then that's where you have to go to get it replaced. If you bought it directly through VZW then you have to go to a corporate store or call CS. There is no gurantee that this will fix your problem because as they tech said thus appears to be a software issue.  Yes it can be both or eitehr. I went throug that witht he Curve 8330 upgrades to OS 4.3 to 4.5 and how it took several upgrades to get rid of the laggy trackball when it was blazing fast on OS 4.3 and uber slow on 4.5.

You never know when BB updates come on BB's and if any CS person gives you a date they are speculating as no for dates are ever given out and each update requires a minimum of two weeks of in dept testing and then if it fails they start the process again with a new version.

What about cleaning your trackball? I heard that works on most Blackberries, since you are having problems with moving it, but I am probably totally wrong, I don't even have my Tour yet.

You can certainly try cleaning it but honestly unless you have been using it with dirty/greasy hands it should not need it yet.

when i put the invisible shild on my tour then I started having problems with the track ball. i took the two stickers aff on the menu and back button and i am good again. I think because th etrack ball is recesed so far it makes it hard to do with the stickers there.

The  ones for the invisible shield. there are ones that go on the call, menu, back and end buttons. I called them stickers because they are so small thats what they remind me of.

some people have had problem with there trackballs and so did i..

i got my phone from a friend that works for RIM so i didn't have any warranty
so i took my phone apart and put a ball from an older BB and it worked better then
original ball did ,even when it was good. Wink

Only thing is that the housing on the ball is a little different and does t fit 100% but pretty close
i orderd a ball with a black edge and blue ball... very sharp

http://cnn.cn/shop/index.php
very good site for BB parts! Shocked

Welcome to the forum Dalborg. I moved your post here since we already had a trackball discussion.

What was the model of the old BlackBerry's trackball you used?

Can you post pictures? I want to see how it looks with the older trackball and with the blue one with black housing... I'm considering to do this even though it will void my warranty. I will wait until the possible "firmware upgrade" comes out to fix the trackball, if it doesn't fix it, I will most likely do the blue ball!!!

Hello
i had an extra trackball kicking around for my old blackberry (8830/World) that's the same ball as curve and pearl are using..

I think the problem is the trackball housing on the tour. I replaced the black ball to start with and i didn't do a hole lot so i replaced the hole housing and it was like new only thing is the housing on the tour go's little higher up around the ball..
I also put the housing from the tour in my 8830/world and same problem that i had with the tour was now in my old phone  Undecided

sorry the pic is bad just got a webbcam. I gave the blue ball away to a friend with same problem but i got more coming in the mail so i will upload a pic soon as i get that one installed again.

here is a good video of how you take your phone apart! dont forgette to take memory card out if you got one!!!

i had some good luck playing around with the settings of my trackball sensitivity - however if I encounter any more problems I am definitely going the Dalborg way. Thanks for the info mate

Wow what a relief. I'm due for an upgrade on the 22nd. Ive heard of a few minor problems that Ive been worrying about before I get my first BB. I figured the crap battery life is an easy fix with an extended battery, I don't mind the extra bulk. And the loose battery door, I guess the electrical tape trick will solve that. But Ive really been fretting over the trackball. Especially if its not something fixable by a software upgrade. After watching the video it looks like switching out the trackball for a curve trackball would be relatively easy.

Ok here's my question, do I need to find someone with an old BB curve so I can get their trackball, or can I order a trackball from somewhere online? I hear you all talking about a blue trackball, that color contrast sounds like it would be interesting on the Tour.

I got this one from ebay... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260409127880

But once I get it, I won't install it right away... I'm still not brave enough to open my Tour... especially because I don't have the tools!

But I think I will change the trckball eventually...

and here is a Tour disassembly video...
