Forgive me if this is covered somewhere else. I think I have read every thread with phone-specific tips in it and don't recall seeing this discussed so far.  I am trying to figure out if there is a way to organize my sms inbox to display by contact rather than in the order that the messages were sent and received, the same as BBM or any of the instant messenger programs? Any ideas or menus I should explore? Or possibly another thread that answers the question in depth already.  Thanks.

Im pretty new to the Blackberry world, but the upcoming OS 5.0 release for the Tour will have threaded messages as one of the features. No one knows when this update will be but Im sure it will happen in the next few months. You could also do a search at crackberry, and download the 5.0 leaked OS for the Tour. But keep in mind its not the complete version, so it may have issues or bugs still. But from the people I have talked to, they like the leaked version so far.

And I may be wrong, but if you do update your OS with the leaked version, I think Blackberry App World doesnt work through your device, keep this in mind as well.

When it comes to OS upgrades, I rather wait for the carrier to release it... its just my piece of mind... and yes, OS 5.0 is supposed to have threaded SMS and a new version of BBM (5.0)

Hmm, I'm already using BBM 5.0.0.8 that a friend of mine pointed me towards.  Perhaps he sent me to a leaked version?

As for the OS upgrade, I'm with Ryu on that one.  I have no desire to upgrade my phone's entire operating system to a beta version only to have some major design flaw or incompatibility cost me my phone's data, my phone itself or even just the time I could end up wasting trying to fix the problem.  My buddy with a Storm was just telling me about the hassle he had gone through to fix everything on his phone after installing a pre-release OS leak that had erased all his contacts and other bits of data on his phone.  Not something I would like to experience just because of a lack of patience for the developers to finish their work on something so important to the phone's functionality.

I am a little disappointed that the option for threaded sms conversations isn't already on the phone.  Every time I use one of the instant messengers or BBM and then go back into my sms folder, I get a little more annoyed with the lack of organization in there.  Maybe it's just my OCD when it comes to organizing my digital info, regardless of what it is.

Yes, that version is leaked...

The final BBM version will be released and included with the OS 5.0

Well, thankfully I have had no problems with this leaked version on my phone and have enjoyed it so far.  I am a little on the fence about people being able to know exactly when I have read a message because, honestly, sometimes it's nice to be able to lie and say I didn't get the message until later or never got it at all. Wink lol

Well, I'm sure I can wait on the OS upgrade to get my threaded sms messaging for a while still. It's just more of an annoyance than a real inconvenience.

I'm with you guys, I'm not willing to brick my phone because I'm impatient. I hear its reversible but why chance it. Although I would like more organization with my messages

I've actually bricked my phone more with official upgrades than with leaks... haha but I do get what you're saying

I'm running the leaked version on my BB Tour and LOVE it!! but i just upgraded like 2-3 wks ago, so there where a lot of bugs already worked out.

and i just wanted to verify to you guys that the 5.0v does have grouped chat like SMS's, but that they are still sorted by date, not person. I see no way to change this. Even on the new 5.0v OS.

and also, my phone was bricked by a "official" release of something.....so bad that they tried to send me a new phone because none of the reps/techs could fix it. But, I did.

I dont have OS 5.0 installed but I played with the new Bold 9700 which is comes with 5.0; if you go to the messaging folder, press the BB button and chose options. There will be an option to keep messages (emails) and SMS together or separate... chose separate and you will have an icon for SMS/MMS, which will be threaded just like the BBMessenger...

Im sure we will get it as soon as the Tour2 comes out... just how it happened for the Storm, they got it the day before the Storm2 was released with 5.0

If my assumption is correct, we should get it in the next 2 to 3 months at most!

I had threaded messaging on my Storm 2, now I have Tour and I miss the threaded messaging.  Not a huge deal just a minor inconvenience.  Looking forward to a new OS upgrade so that messaging is a little more organized.

I think this date is getting closer... pictures and reviews of the tour2 are all over the place!
