In this section of our forum you will read about how to upgrade the operating system on your Blackberry Smartphone. While, when done correctly, this is generally trouble free, it is not by any means guaranteed and if there is a problem your phone may be left in a unusable state. In most cases it is possible to recover a "bricked" or "nuked" phone, but there is always the risk of permanent damage, and depending on how recent your most recent backups are you will probably loose at least SOME data. We STRONGLY recommend you do a full backup of your database and apps before any upgrade.

Please keep in mind when reading this section and remember that ANY damage to your handset caused by attempting to uninstall these updates is AT YOUR OWN RISK and that niagara-blackberry.com and its owners assume NO responsibility.

Also remember, that installing leaked beta software, and performing unauthorized hacks/mods, does void your warranty.

 * This section consists of three boards. The first one is for general discussion of the BlackBerry Operating System (the BB OS) and updating and downgrading it.
 * It has two sub forums, one for official OS updates and one for leaks. The one for official release is ONLY for releases downloaded from the official websites (Blackberry.com or vzw.smithmicro.com/blackberry). The "leaked" board is for versions acquired from other sites such as Rapidshare and Media Upload. If there is interest I will create one for Hybrids (using parts from multiple OS Versions)
 *  Each release/leak/beta has it's own thread with the version number and carriers it works on in the subject
 *  Please keep discussion in the correct thread and don't start new ones unless absolutely necessary as new topics are merged.
 *  Versions officially released for Sprint will also work on Verizon and Vice Versa (as well as Telus, Bell, and any other future carrier as long as the handset is the same model 9630)

Thank you for your cooperation on this!
