I can't tell you for sure since I have Sprint... but some of my Vzn friends tell me it is easily done. If your phone is under contract and your wife's is not, they will change the contract to her number so you can't cancel the number and keep the phone...

actually i was thinking of her getting my tour (which now has 2 year contract) and me taking her phone, switching my number to her old crappy env2 (which has only 1 year left on contract). if that makes any sice from a man thats worked all day in 10000 degree heat and ready to pass out

Just take both in, it should be easy and free....After I switched from my Dare to my Tour, I switched my wife from her flip phone to the Dare no problem

It's called an ESN change and yes you can do it no problem. I do it all the time. Call customer service from another phone 1-800-922-0204 and ask them. It's free, but if you go into a store there is usually a fee.

If you are a VIP there is no fee but others they are supposed to charge you a fee unless you just bought a new phone. It's been a mixed bag to me weather I got charged or not until I found out that the sales associate either lied or didn't know what he was talking about when he told me CS charged too.
